Justin Lee Palmer, 44, of Jonesboro, Arkansas was arrested after authorities found evidence that he had been going online and pretending to be a 15-year-old girl, coaching young girls to be anorexic.
Monsters are real. Justin Lee Palmer is proof of this. This demon will spend thirty years in a concrete box the size of a handicapped bathroom stall 23 hours a day. This also speaks volumes about the unhealthy influence of social media, and children's brains under the age of 21 are not developed. I am not blaming the victims. Parents need to know what their children are doing online.
I found it interesting that he was an internet predator yet he has no apparent online presence to speak of. We could not find a facebook, insta, linkedin, no pictures of any kind.
In regards to parents, there is a growing body of evidence that links eating disorders to experiences of childhood trauma. He seemed to be targeting girls with existing dysfunctions. Here is a related systematic review of the current studies (as of 2019) if you're interested:
My brother died from bulimia complications. When Karen Carpenter died from anorexia bulimia in 1983, people had never heard of this and could not understand the concept of not eating to this extent for appearance and fear of weight gain She died from heart failure. Her death put anorexia and bulimia into the vernacular. Maybe even the catalyst for why it is so common today. My brother's death was caused by shaming for his weight gain by his father when he was a child. Years of purging destroys the gastrointestinal system. He died from a botched surgery resecting his small intestine. He had horrible complications and passed away after two weeks in the hospital. The studies from 2019 apply to my brother.
I'm very sorry to hear about your brother. It's an awful disease that people still don't take seriously enough; I've struggled with it too. I hope the kids in the story get the help that they need, but have little faith in either the system or their parents to ensure that they do.
