Amarjeet Sada was born to a family of impoverished laborers in 1998 in a village in Bihar, a state in East India bordering Nepal and divided by the River Ganges. Sada was described as a loner who spent his time climbing trees and roaming the village.
In 2006, his aunt and her six-month-old daughter came to stay with his family. First, the aunt left to visit a nearby city where she had found a job. Then Sada’s mother left him at home to watch his cousin and his younger sister while she went to the market to get some vegetables.
Shortly thereafter, Sada murdered his cousin. Allegedly, this began with Sada pinching and slapping the baby, became gleeful as the baby began to cry, and then started choking the infant. After strangling the child to death, he allegedly took the body to a nearby forest, picked up a brick, and bashed the baby's head in before burying the body under some grass.
He confessed to his mother when she got home, who was shocked by the confession and reportedly did not know what to do besides inform his father. Instead of handing him over to the police, his father physically punished him for killing his cousin, and the family came up with a story about a fake "accident" to con the aunt.
The following winter, his parents were taking a nap, and Amarjeet's mother woke to what she believed were faint wails of hunger from her 8-month-old daughter. After she went into the room and picked the infant up to breastfeed her, she realized her daughter was dead.
She asked Amarjeet, “Did you kill your sister too?”
He had strangled her to death, and replied honestly, “Yes.”
His father slapped him, and demanded, "Why did you do it?”
Sada is reported to have replied, “Just like that."
His parents still chose not to notify authorities. He was finally brought in by police in connection with another murder in 2007. Another infant, this time one that he kidnapped out of a stroller that was under some trees in front of a nearby school.
He smashed the baby’s face with a rock, killing her instantly, then buried her nearby in the grass and walked away. Her mother returned to the empty stroller and, fortunately, someone remembered seeing Amarjeet carrying the child. Amarjeet was then taken in for questioning, where he eventually confessed to all three of his crimes.
Allegedly, Sada demanded cookies before he would agree to answer questions from the police. About the infant, he reportedly told police, “She was sleeping in the school. I took her a little away and killed her with a stone and buried her.”
Reportedly, when Amarjeet turned 18 in 2016, he was released under a new identity, and his current whereabouts are unknown.
If this is the whole story (meaning if there isn’t more to the story in ways of abuse, neglect, ridicule or the like), then this is a prime example of nature trumping nurture!
