This was uploaded based on a subscriber request for an excerpt from Keyes FBI interviews. Keyes told FBI agents in Alaska that he raped, but did not kill, this victim - his first known victim of any kind - in Oregon sometime between 1996 and 1998.
He said the girl was 14-18 years old, and that the sexual assault occurred near Maupin, Oregon. The victim was with friends but fell behind while inner tubing down the Deschutes River in Maupin, Oregon, and Keyes was able to separate her from the friends. Her identity remains unknown, but it’s believed that her name started with an L, possibly Leah or Lena.
TCBS claims that they exchanged emails with this victim; this information can not be independently verified, and they disclose in the episode that some of the important details don’t line up with the information provided by Keyes. Keyes said he pulled her out of the water; the person who emailed TCBS claims she was cornered by an outhouse.
It is unknown what, if any, steps TCBS took to verify her identity or validate her claims. That information is not provided by TCBS, who go on to claim that “there are two plausible scenarios” for the disparity in details: that Keyes was misleading the FBI or that this was a totally different encounter with Keyes. They do not acknowledge the possibility that this person was lying to them, and they don’t bother to explain in any way why they believe information they received by email from a random stranger.
Based on reliable information from law enforcement, no relevant police report is known to exist that fits the encounter Keyes described. It is possible that the victim never reported it, or that Keyes was not being truthful whether about the event itself, the time period, the location, or the girl’s age, and it is unknown if she lived in the area or was visiting.
Anyone who has information about the rape case is asked to call the FBI in Portland at (503) 224-4181, in Bend at (541) 389-1202, or the national hotline at 1-800-CALL FBI.
The culliers he says in the interview he was going to rape the husband but he kept fighting and trying to get away.. talks about being with men in other parts too. Deff safe to say he was bisexual. I think anyways 😅
His lack of MO is what made him so prolific.
The “pulled her out of the water” sounds a little over the top, wouldn’t she scream? I get that it would very much depend on how far the friends were, how wide that part of the river was, how deep was it, were there other tubers, etc… What do you guys think?
